japjah [japɡjaːh]

japjah [japɡjaːh] is more than just a sound, it is a unique identity and signature sound, deeply connected to Carolina Sauter’s music projects and releases.

Rooted in pure sound, japjah embodies rhythm, repetition and movement. Just like the word chacha, music evolves through subtle variations in repeats, creating its own signature flow. “When asked if I make music, my instinctive response is jap, a quick, natural yes. Over time, this affirmation took on a unique form, looping back on itself like a rhythmic pattern with a subtle variation, becoming japjah [japɡjaːh]“, says Carolina.

This concept has shaped Carolina’s artistic identity since her early years, when she was already making music and using sound alongside notation. “From the beginning my vision was clear, one day I will establish a record label bearing this name. While this has yet to happen it remains a future possibility. That’s one of those dreams you have as a child, and somehow, it never really lets go of you, even as an adult.” she explains.

In 2024 Carolina decided to bring her art into the public space. Since February 2025 the domain japjah.com has been active as the official platform for representing and defining japjah as a distinctive identity and signature sound in music, as well as explaining its history to those who are interested.
